What is Special Education?

No two students are the same. Each student and each student’s abilities are different. The purpose of the Special Education Service Center-Instruction is to assist special education teachers and District staff in working collaboratively with students and families to develop and implement the Individualized Education Program that is tailored to students’ individualized needs. Although it was once believed that students with disabilities should be taught together in separate settings apart from other children, we now know that all students benefit when all students are educated together in integrated classrooms and schools.

¿Qué es la Educación Especial?

No hay dos estudiantes iguales. Cada estudiante y las habilidades de cada estudiante son diferentes. El propósito del Centro de Instrucción de Servicios de Educación Especial es ayudar a los maestros de educación especial y al personal del Distrito a trabajar en colaboración con los estudiantes y las familias para desarrollar e implementar el Programa de Educación Individualizado que se adapta a las necesidades individualizadas de los estudiantes. Aunque alguna vez se creyó que los estudiantes con discapacidades debían aprender juntos en entornos separados, aparte de otros niños, ahora sabemos que todos los estudiantes se benefician cuando todos los estudiantes son educados juntos en aulas y escuelas integradas.
